With a large proportion of mobile users living with various types of disabilities and an aging population, developing accessible apps and creating new mobile based assistive solutions represent an important opportunity for developers, operators and users alike. Leading developers with experience in delivering leading edge accessible and assistive mobile solutions will share their experience in creating and marketing apps for this increasingly important market. Moderated by Prof. Licia Sbattella of Politecnico di Milano, this hands on session will review leading accessible and assistive apps available on the Italian market, compare the strengths of iOS5, Android 4.1 and Windows 8 from an accessibility standpoint, and discuss the impact of tablets on the market for mobile assistive solutions and how those new technologies are adopted by end users.

4:00 – 4:50 p.m. – Hands-on Session: “Leveraging Cloud-based Solutions for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities - The Italian Experience”
Digital inclusion for seniors and persons with disabilities presents some of the most difficult user interface challenges: sensorial, physical and cognitive limitations create insurmountable barriers to using web services, phones and computers alike. Cloud based technologies offer revolutionary ways to tailor interfaces to each user by identifying and memorizing each individual’s specific abilities and remotely adjusting automatically the settings of the device while integrating contents and services in an easy to use computing environment. Banks, retailers, social services and local governments from the Region of Lombardia will share their pioneering experiences of what is the first cloud based assistive services deployment in the world.
Session Chair: Claudio Giugliemma, President, LucyTech, Inc.
