Session Overview

One billion persons  – 15% of the world population – lives with disabilities and is underserved due to the poor levels of e-accessibility of most devices. Persons with disabilities include those who have long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments which in interaction with various barriers may hinder their full and effective participation in society on an equal basis with others.[1] Mobile innovations designed to meet the requirements of seniors and persons with disabilities, however, are accelerating at a fast pace, opening unprecedented opportunities for apps and services delivered on mobile phones and tablets. Mobile service providers, apps developers, users and accessibility experts will look at how innovation benefits users, expands the mobile market and rapidly transforms the global accessible and assistive technologies eco-system.

The Milan Briefing at SMAU/EXPO COMM Italia 2012 will be the first European edition of the M-Enabling Summit Global Program delivered on all continents in partnership with leading telecommunication corporations and institutions, in planning and promotion of the 2nd M-Enabling Global Conference and Showcase to be held in Washington, D.C., June 5-6, 2013.

The program includes a multi-stakeholders plenary session aimed at familiarizing European regulators, mobile service providers, handset manufacturers, and organizations of seniors and persons with disabilities with the main dispositions of the U.S. 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act covering the accessibility of mobile phones and services, while stimulating an exchange of perspectives. Two successive expert sessions will be geared towards hands-on experience sharing and demonstrations to promote applications and services and new cloud-based solutions for seniors and persons with disabilities.

Participation to the conference is complimentary by invitation (first come, first served), prior to registration on the SMAU website, using the following link www.smau.it/invite/m-enabling
