Eighth Session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP8) to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD)

Title: Accessibility and Education/ Challenges and Solutions

Details: The main purpose of this Forum is to discuss the accessibility challenges faced by learners with disabilities when accessing education facilities and the solutions that are currently being implemented and that can be broadly replicated.

Title: Connecting the Last Mile: Addressing Legal and Policy Gaps in ICT Accessibility

Details: Information and communication technology (ICT) can leapfrog technology access barriers. This panel will discuss law, policy, and social measures that States Parties can take to ensure ICT accessibility as per CRPD requirements, sharing best practices from policy and practice, including e-accessibility for persons with intellectual disabilities, voting, model policy frameworks.

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities was adopted by the General Assembly by its resolution 61/106 of 13 December 2006. It came into force on 3 May 2008 upon the 20th ratification. Article 40 of the Convention stipulates that “The States Parties shall meet regularly in a Conference of States Parties in order to consider any matter with regard to the implementation of the present Convention.” Since 2008, six sessions of the Conference of States Parties have been held at United Nations Headquarters, New York.
