Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs (G3ict) is proud to host a workshop in Johannesburg on ICT accessibility for persons with disabilities, organized with the generous support of Microsoft South Africa in collaboration with DPI (Disabled People’s International) and other international and local partners, including BarrierBreak.
The capacity-building training workshop is designed to promote technical knowledge and capacity of leading executives and officials of organizations for persons with disabilities, to advocate and interact effectively with policymakers and industry to ensure the accessibility of ICT. The workshop is part of an ongoing series deployed in different regions of the world by G3ict in collaboration with Microsoft and DPI. Meetings have been held in India, Colombia and Mexico.
Shilpi Kapoor, Founder Director, BarrierBreak Technologies
Shilpi Kapoor is the founder director of BarrierBreak, a brand of Net Systems Informatics (I) Pvt Ltd. Her vision was to 'break the barriers of knowledge and disabilities'. She is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer and has been trained in the field of Section 508 and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). With an industry experience of 18 years she has been the protagonist is bringing about revolutionary changes in the lives of people with disabilities through her innovative ideas and initiatives. She is a truly an accessibility evangelist for India. Shilpi Kapoor is also the recipient of "NCPEDP - Shell Helen Keller Award 2008" for the role model category - Non-disabled role model supporter of increased employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Shilpi Kapoor is also an Ashoka Fellow. Shilpi Kapoor has been instrumental in drafting the National Policy on Electronic Accessibility in association with National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People External Website. The objective of the policy is to provide persons with disabilities equal access to electronic and information and communication technology and services. An active member of NASSCOM Disability Advisory Group and a co-convener of the National Task Force for Electronic Accessibility. Also being a woman entrepreneur, she believes in giving back promoting women entrepreneurship by working with TiE Mumbai and TiE Stree Shakti.
