FCC AccessInfo: M-ENABLING SUMMIT TO TAKE PLACE AT FCC: December 5-6, 2011

Latest Mobile Accessibility Breakthroughs for Persons with Disabilities

On the morning of December 5, 2011, the M-Enabling Summit will be held at the FCC headquarters, located at 445 12th Street, SW, in Washington D.C. The Summit will continue on the afternoon of the 5th and all day on December 6th at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center, Washington, D.C.

This conference will feature the latest innovations in mobile accessibility and mobile assistive solutions developed for senior citizens and persons with disabilities.  Participants will have the opportunity to review how mobile service providers, corporations and governments in the U.S. and around the world are deploying mobile accessibility solutions for seniors and persons with disabilities, resulting in greater rates of adoption of mobile services. 

More than 100 available assistive mobile applications, handsets and mobile web services will be demonstrated by industry, vendors and developers during specialized “show and tell” sessions chaired by organizations of persons with disabilities and accessibility experts, and exhibited in a dedicated application showcase.  See full program at: www.m-enabling.com

Apple, RIM, Motorola, HTC, Qualcomm, Doro, AT&T, Sprint, AOL, Vodafone, Orange, Code Factory, Apps4 Android, IBM, AAPD, COAT, Time Warner Cable, FCC, W3C-WAI, ITU, SSB Bart Group, LucyTech,  TDI – Telecommunications for the Deaf, Sorenson Communications, Vcom3D,  Abilities!, BeClose, HumanWare, Purple Communications, Deque Systems, DAISY Consortium, AFB-Tech, NENA, Gallaudet University, U.S. DOE, GPII, IARP are among the 85 speakers and showcase exhibitors who will present their most recent mobile accessibility technology breakthroughs and future trends, such as near-field communication, cloud-computing and advanced content recognition technologies. 

Developers, service providers, telecom regulators and experts from more than 25 countries have confirmed their participation and will share their experiences of innovative accessibility programs. 

A special session will cover the application of the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act to mobile phones and services, led by Karen Peltz Strauss, Deputy Chief, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau of the Communications Commission.

Kareem Dale, Associate Director, White House Office of Public Engagement and Special Assistant to the President for Disability Policy, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski, Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary-General, ITU - International Telecommunication Union, Mohammed Al-Tarawneh, Inaugural Chairperson, United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, will offer remarks to the M-Enabling Summit participants.
