Big Smartwatch Push at CES Anticipates Apple's Entry Later in 2015
At International CES this week, more than 500 vendors are showing off wearable computing gear of some flavor or other. Among the 569 companies officially listed on the CES website, some are pushing silicon chips for embedding in clothes and shoes while others are promoting wearable computing accessories. Vendors are displaying commercially available smartwatches and smart glasses. Others are showing how wearables have become smarter by coupling data about individuals with enormous data sets in the cloud.

CES 2015: Alcatel to Unwrap Affordable OneTouch Watch to Rival Apple Watch
The Alcatel OneTouch Watch is one of the smartwatches that people attending the CES 2015 in Las Vegas can expect to see. Bearing an elegant design akin to Apple's smart watches but priced at a reasonable rate, the OneTouch Watch claims that it has ushered in a new category of smart watches aptly labeled "the affordable smart watch." Alcatel plans to offer the watch at a fraction of the price of other popular names in the smart watch industry.

Cognitive disabilities represent the largest subset of the total population of persons who have disabilities. According to a 2013 review by University College London, up to 10% of the population are affected by specific learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, dyscalculia and autism, translating to 2 or 3 pupils in every classroom.

Fujitsu Develops Compact RFID for Wearables, Metal
ujitsu Laboratories has developed a compact RFID tag that works on surfaces such as metal, which can otherwise impede radio waves.
The tag, 30mm long, 25mm wide and 0.5mm thick, can be attached to any material, including plastic cards, wearables and metal objects. Despite its small size, it has a communication range of about 2 meters.

Smartwatch Interest Ticks up as Apple Watch Fever Rises
Interest in smartwatches has soared in recent months, even as it has stalled for smart glasses, according to a two-part survey of 8,266 consumers done in May and October by Futuresource Consulting. That survey underscores the promise -- and perils -- of smartwatches for corporations and their IT shops, which will have to accommodate workers using the devices for work email and other tasks. Some IT admins see smartwatches as a passing fad, but others regard them as an evolving computing platform worthy of attention.

Sony High-res OLED Screen Attaches to Any Eyewear
