Canada: Access 2020 Coalition Seeks CRTC Support for New Accessibility Initiative
The Access 2020 Coalition of Canada’s largest accessibility organizations has asked the CRTC to support a new initiative to assist broadcasters to become 100% accessible to all Canadians, including deaf, deafened, hard of hearing, blind or low-vision people, by 2020. Access 2020’s intervention concerning BCE’s purchase of CTV asks the CRTC to adopt its approach to supporting Canadian content, by allocating 1% of the value of vertical integration transactions to a not-for-profit fund that would finance the transition to complete accessibility on all distribution platforms.
