At the annual Microsoft Russia conference that was held in Moscow on February 9, 2012, UNIC Moscow Director Alexandre Gorelik spoke on the topic of e-accessibility for persons with special needs.

The annual conference of Microsoft-Russia on February 9, 2012, brought together 150 participants from across Russia to review the “Your Course” programme intended to enhance computer skills of different social groups. UNIC Moscow Director was invited to sit on an expert panel at the opening session. The panel, which also included Nikolai Prianishnikov, President of Microsoft-Russia, steered a debate on the development of the Information Society in the country’s provinces.

The director concentrated his remarks on the topic of e-accessibility for persons with special needs. He said that an important follow-up to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the country level is the task of establishing a legal framework and a political agenda in order to mainstream disability issues. He also spoke about accessibility standards, necessary partnerships among the key players, and the goal of engaging the industry (stakeholders from the private sector).

Close links with Microsoft-Russia have been a positive factor in recent years for the UNIC Moscow outreach focused on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
