Internet of Things: New Promises for Persons with Disabilities

Recent developments in both networks and devices are enabling a much greater range of connected devices and Internet of Things (IoT) functionalities. The Internet of Things opens new opportunities for persons with disabilities and seniors, giving them an unprecedented control on their environment. Home automation already provides tools for more independent living, and new applications appear on the market for health care, transportation, education and employment. In the years to come, standardization, security and privacy will have to be addressed by industry, government and users.
