LinkNYC Kiosks Made More Accessible
October 10, 2019
We see the LinkNYC kiosks all across the city, and the free phone call app on them is one of the most used features, and now, they will be more accessible for those with hearing difficulties.
The New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunication has been working alongside the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities on providing a Video Relay Service that connects users with American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters to relay what the person on the other end of the line is saying, making those free phone calls available for the deaf.
Starting Thursday, it will be integrated on tablets throughout the five boroughs.
The tablets also have braille descriptors.
Officials said Link tablets have an average of 600,000 calls made on them every month.
