Technology breakthroughs and future innovations in mobile accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities were showcased at the M-Enabling Summit in Washington, D.C. in December 2011. For the first time, the M-Enabling Summit offered a unique platform for identifying global opportunities for accessible and assistive mobile applications and services. Held in cooperation with the FCC - Federal Communications Commission- and the ITU - International Telecommunication Union - this was the first successful mobile industry conference and showcase of its kind.
Apple, AT&T, Sprint, RIM, Motorola, HTC, Qualcomm, Doro, AOL, Vodafone, Orange, Code Factory, IBM, FCC, ITU, LucyTech, and Deque Systems, were among the 75 speakers and high caliber showcase participants who presented their perspectives on the most recent mobile accessibility technology breakthroughs and future trends. Organizations representing persons with disabilities, seniors and accessibility experts chaired sessions, covering topics such as geo-positioning, near-field communication, cloud-computing and advanced content recognition technologies. Further, advanced technology solutions were demonstrated and displayed, featuring more than 100 available assistive mobile apps, handsets, and web services.
After an extremely successful first event, bringing together government leaders, industry experts, developers, service providers and vendors, E.J. Krause & Associates and G3ict are pleased to announce the date for the M-Enabling Summit 2013 which will take place on June 6 and 7, 2013. “Spring of 2013 will be an easier and more attractive period of the year than December for international visitors and exhibitors coming to Washington,” commented Ned Krause, Chairman and CEO of EJ Krause and Associates. “The new date in June 2013 will allow for a greater exchange of perspectives between U.S. and international participants on solutions to implement the 21st Century Communications Act since most rules will be released by then” - added Axel Leblois, Executive Director of G3ict, the Global Initiative for Inclusive ICTs - “this will be an important factor for many participants.”
The M-Enabling Summit Program Committee, which includes AT&T, Sprint, LucyTech, and IBM, among others have agreed that it will be best for the event to take place in the spring of 2013. With the comment period for the 21st Century Communication’s Act ending in March 2013, our attendees in the disabilities community, senior citizens groups, and the FCC view the M-Enabling Summit as an ideal venue for focusing on the implementation of this groundbreaking legislation.
With the pace of innovation in mobile accessibility and mobile assistive technologies accelerating, M-Enabling Program Committee members, which includes organizations of persons with disabilities, senior citizens groups, industry leaders such as AT&T, Sprint, IBM, Motorola, Deque, RIM, the International Telecommunication Union and the FCC view the M-Enabling Summit as a timely and indispensable forum to ensure that best practices and solutions from around the world are shared among all stakeholders.
All organizations and professionals interested in promoting accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities are cordially invited to join the 2013 M-Enabling Summit, the first and only global event summits dedicated to mobile accessible and assistive solutions and services.
