G3ict’s Digital Accessibility Rights Education (DARE) Academy Announces 10 Recipients to Cycle 3 of its Scholarship Fund Program

The DARE Academy Scholarship Fund is G3ict’s pilot program dedicated to opening new potentials for persons with disabilities who are interested in and passionate about advocating for digital accessibility and to get certified as professionals in the field. Ten recipients have been awarded scholarships as part of Cycle 3 of the scholarship fund program.

The Global Initiative for Inclusive Information and Communication Technologies (G3ict) is pleased to announce the recipients of Cycle 3 of its Scholarship Fund Program through its Digital Accessibility Rights Education (DARE) Academy. Twenty applicants have been awarded the scholarship for Cycle 3 of the scholarship held from March 15 to April 15, 2023.

The 10 recipients are:

  • Mohamed Hamdy Saad Ahmed, Bustan Elmanar for People with Visual impairment (Egypt)
  • Muhammad Akram, Danishkadah (Pakistan)
  • Prasanna Rajiv Kuruppu, Sri Lanka Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (Sri Lanka)
  • Judith Ann Okite, Association for Accessibility and Equality (Kenya)
  • Moses Serwadda, Uganda Federation of Hard of Hearing (Uganda)
  • Nir Bahadur Shrestha, Blind Youth Association Nepal (Nepal)
  • AbdulAzeez Asadullah Ahmed, Nigeria Association of the Blind (Nigeria)
  • Bruno Tot, Croatian Blind Union (Croatia)
  • Mashukura Habibu Kabwogi, Tanzania League of the Blind (TLB) (Tanzania)

G3ict’s DARE Academy Scholarship program is dedicated to opening new potentials for persons with disabilities who are interested in and passionate about advocating for digital accessibility and getting certified as professionals in this field. Forty scholarships in two cycles have been offered through 2021 and 2022, with Cycle 3 being offered for 2023.

A SNAPSHOT

The 10 scholarship recipients successfully completed a global call for applications held from March 15 to April 15, 2023. Applicants were shortlisted and selected by the DARE Academy Advisory Council, consisting of representatives from regional and international Organizations of Persons with Disabilities. The Selection Jury consisted of members from CBM Global Disability Inclusion, European Federation of Hard of Hearing People (EFHOH), International Disability Alliance (IDA), International Federation of Hard of Hearing People (IFHOH), DAISY Consortium, Disabled Peoples’ International (DPI), Leonard Cheshire Disability, and the World Blind Union (WBU).

The scholarship covers 100% of the costs of G3ict’s International Association of Accessibility Professionals’ education material, developed in partnership with Princeton University's Office of Information Technology to prepare for IAAP’s Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) exam. The scholarship also covers the fee to take the CPACC exam, and access to IAAP membership for one year.

The Scholarship aims to make available to officers, advocates, and volunteers of national organizations of Persons with Disabilities the same quality of IAAP and G3ict training and certification resources available to private or public sector executives and academic personnel.

Students are anticipated to get enrolled and start course preparation in July 2023, and attempt the CPACC exam in the 2 exam windows between September 2023 and February 2024.
