M-Enabling Summit
Since the mid-2000’s mobile
networks and technologies have brought access to telephony and the Internet to
billions of users – 7 billion as of 2017. This phenomenal success and the
intense competition among leading technology providers have generated
unprecedented innovations in accessible user interfaces, accessible and assistive
apps, special services, and Smart Home and Smart Cities solutions benefiting
persons with disabilities.
G3ict launched the M-Enabling Summit, in
partnership with E.J. Krause and Associates (EJK) in 2011, in cooperation with the
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) to facilitate the interaction between app developers,
technology providers, operators, advocates, government, accessibility experts
and services providers to further promote innovations in accessibility for
persons with disabilities.
Held annually in Washington,
D.C., the M-Enabling Summit includes an innovation showcase, a conference program
with more than 40 thematic sessions, technical briefings provided by the
International Association of Accessibility Professionals and the annual FCC Chairman's Awards for Advancements in Accessibility (Chairman’s AAA).
The M-Enabling Summit has featured
prominent speakers since inception among industry leaders, policy makers,
advocates and innovators. It has established itself as a leading venue
for decision makers seeking information on accessibility solutions,
multi-stakeholder cooperation and the promotion of digital accessibility
innovation.
M-Enabling meetings have also been organized in Milan, Italy; Sydney, Australia; Moscow, Russian Federation; San Francisco, California hosted by GSMA at the 2017 Mobile World Congress Americas. In 2018 and 2019, G3ict and EJK have hosted M-Enabling European meetings in Düsseldorf, Germany, in cooperation with REHACARE at Messe Düsseldorf.
